Shepard's Awards on the NBA Standings

Scariest Team in the NBA

The Miami Heat (8-1)
--
Well there's no wonder why this team is scary. They have only lost 1 game in their season so far, only loss coming to the Pistons by 4 points. Every other game they've played, they've won by 5 points or more. They were 8-0 until the pistons. Also, LeBron James has won two player of the weeks. A powerful team that is proving they are hard to beat.
--
Erik Spoelstra (Heat Head Coach): "It's hard to lose when you have the best three players in the league. We work hard behind the scenes, and we truly are a family here"

Sleeper Team Award

The Golden State Warriors (5-2)
--
Some fans might shrug this team, since they're in the same division as the Lakers and the Suns. But these guys are not only 5-2, but they are perfect against their conference and even the division. They won 4-0 on the conference and 2-0 in their division. Winning inner-conference and inner-division makes the whole difference.
--
Keith Smart (Warriors Head Coach): I think the Lakers are overshadowing us because we haven't played as many games as they have. We're a bigger thread in this league than people think this year, and we look forward to proving it."

Flickering Light Award

The Houston Rockers (9-6)
--
Like the title hints at, this award goes to the team that is still running, but seems to be flickering out. The Rockets started out as the best team in the league, going 6-1 and dominating the Pistons, Raptors, Grizzles, Kings, Timberwolves, and Hawks. But recently, they've been losing a lot, dropping 5 of their last 8. Let's hope they can change directions and get back on track.
--
Rick Adelman (Rockets Head Coach): "We're just going through a tough part of our schedules. I mean we faced the Lakers, the revenge-hungry Kings, the Trail Blazers, and the come-back Pistons. When Yao gets healthy again, I expect to win a lot more."

Big Flop Award

The Utah Jazz (3-10)
--
These guys can't seem to get anything going so far in the year. They started the season out on a hard note, losing to the Nuggets, Lakers, Warriors, Pistons, Heat, Hawks, Bulls, Rockets, and Spurs. Those are solid teams that caught this young and un-organized team off guard. Some injuries have held this team back as well. With the Thundery, Mavericks, and Heat coming up, I don't see this team turning around for a while.
--
Jerry Sloan (Jazz Head Coach): "Yeah yeah, hard schedule. Bull sh*t. We need to be prepared for these teams if we want to succeed. If we get to the playoffs, we can't gripe and moan that the teams we face are too tough and accept losses."

Player Reviews
- The players was asked how the league is going so far, and Head Coach Alex Best was asked to comment on the player. -

Jameer Nelson - PG (11 GP, 7 GS, 99 Points, 19 Rebounds, 70 Assists, 13 Steals, 43% FG, 53% 3PT, 100% FT)
"I'm glad I was traded to the Kings. It's a fun group of guys who know how to win. When we're all working together, it's hard to stop us. However when one of us starts slacking, it hurts the entire team."
COACH ALEX BEST: "We needed a three point shooter, and we got it out of Jameer Nelson. This man has experience behind his belt, and knows how to direct our offense. I'm glad he's at the point calling the shots."

Tyreke Evans - SG (11 GP and GS, 202 Points, 31 Rebounds, 25 Assists, 10 Steals, 8 Blocks, 54% FG, 52% 3PT, 83% FT)
"Nobody in this entire league signed up for the NBA because it's easy. No one promised any of us it would be easy. You see the good and ugly about each team, and you have to be ready for anything. It's as simple as that.
COACH ALEX BEST: "He's got a mouth on him, that's for sure. He is a little restless for how young he is. But he knows how to score, and he knows how to lead this team. He needed a few players with him to make him better, and I think we got him that. I see an all-star in him."

Francisco Garcia - SF (11 GP, 7 GS, 82 Points, 36 Rebounds, 14 Assists, 54% FG, 50% 3PT)"I mean, no matter how long you've been in this league, you always need to re-prove yourself in front of a new coach. I'm not sure I've done that yet, but I hope to make a big difference in the future of this franchise."
COACH ALEX BEST: "This kid is good, but I'm not sure where he fits in our team yet. I see him as a starter, but he needs to be a bit more consistant."

Jason Thompson - PF (11 GP and GS, 69 Points, 56 Rebounds, 16 Assists, 10 Blocks, 49% FG, 90% FT)
"I think we're doing really good so far. It's sorta a downer to not see your name in the papers, but I think I'm doing a great deal to help this team. I think we'll have a much more successful season this year compared to last year."
COACH ALEX BEST: "You know, you can't just put 5 scorers out their on the court and expect to win. You need defensive players too. Thompson is a huge defensive threat to our opponents, and I'm very happy we have him."

DeMarcus Cousins - C (11 GP and GS, 122 Points, 58 Rebounds, 9 Blocks, 64% FG, 80% FT)"This has been a really fun season so far. I mean, sure we did lose some games pretty bad, but it's no fun to win them all right? I'm enjoying my role and I'm looking forward to the rest of our season.
COACH ALEX BEST: "I don't know where we'd be without this guy as our Center. I assume probably 0-9. He knows the game well, and he knows how to score when we need it. Both an offensive and defensive threat. What an excellent addition to our team."

James Harden - 6th Man (10 GP, 8 GS, 56 Points, 26 Rebounds, 11 Assists, 38% FG, 72% FT)
"I wasn't sure how I could help this team when I was traded. But I see that I am the strength off the bench. A lot of the second string guys are young. I'm glad I can be some explosive offense."
COACH ALEX BEST: "You can't ignore this guy on defense. He's our SG, yet he snags more rebounds than some of our forwards do. I love that he's aggressive and knows how to get to the basket. Improve his shooting percentages and he'll be a huge threat"

A Message from sYn Shepard (the player!)

I like how difficult this association is going so far. I feel like I'm winning games I should win, but I'm not dominating a league that I can't dominate. That's my issue with other associations. I'm sorry, but the Pistons, Jazz, and Clippers aren't good enough teams to be going 30-0 with their basic roster.

I am trying very hard to be realistic. I do 7 minute quarters because I'll get bored if I do more. I'm trying to keep trades realistic, however the computers aren't stupid and make dumb trades. I don't do overrides, so I accept whatever trades happen. I mean, I tried to figure out a way to get Dwayne Wade, and the heat rejected EVERY player I tried to trade them. So everything is as realistic as I can make it.

As for the Kings, I like my roster. I honestly am not really happy with Francisco Garcia. I mean, he'll have one great game for every 5 bad games. And he's expensive! I'd like to trade him away for a good draft pick to free up some cap space for the free agency. I don't see him being a big help for the Kings in the future, so I'd look for him to move fairly soon. I'm also surprise at Jeter! He's a fun little guy to play as. As for everyone else, I'd say my starting 5 is pretty much locked in except for Garcia. If I manage to get to the playoffs, you'll see Nelson, Evans, Thompson, and Cousins on the floor.

Thanks for all the feedback! I hope you guys enjoy December as much as I'll enjoy playing and writing about it!
